Kantoko may suit you if

  • You want adult ADHD assessment with the option of ongoing care from the same service.
  • Crossing Sydney for repeated specialist appointments is difficult or local wait times are getting in the way.
  • You can attend video appointments and organise a GP referral, ECG, blood tests and basic observations close to home.

Another service may fit better if

  • You are under 18.
  • You need urgent, crisis, in-person or hospital-based mental health care.
  • Your mental or physical health needs more intensive or coordinated specialist care.

If you are not sure which level of care you need, start with your GP or local mental health service.

How Kantoko works in Sydney

ADHD care without crossing the city for every appointment

Your assessment and follow-up appointments happen by video. The few things that need to happen in person stay close to home.

Most of your care

Your care stays online and together

Your ADHD Doctor and care team use the same platform from assessment through ongoing care, when Kantoko is suitable for you.

  • Assessment and video appointments
  • Your health dashboard, records and care plan
  • Requests and care-team communication
  • Practical educational content

Close to home

You arrange a few things near you

Your usual GP and other suitable local providers can complete the referral and routine health checks.

  • A referral from your GP
  • An ECG and standard blood tests
  • Blood pressure, pulse and weight

Telehealth changes where the conversation happens. It does not make the assessment less structured or less doctor-led.

Kantoko

Kantoko online care

Assessment and care
Adult ADHD assessment and ongoing care from an ADHD-focused team, with appointments, records and requests kept in one platform.
Medication
Your ADHD Doctor can discuss medication and handle NSW prescribing requirements when clinically appropriate.
Practical details
$200 for the first month, then $100 per month. The plan includes the assessment process, standard appointments based on clinical need, the Kantoko platform and ongoing care-team support. Care is designed to stay with you after assessment, not end once the diagnosis is complete. New appointments are currently estimated in 1–2 weeks. Medication, GP visits and routine tests are separate. [1]
Private psychiatrist
Assessment and care
Medical specialist assessment. Adult ADHD experience and ongoing appointment arrangements vary, so ask before booking.
Medication
A psychiatrist can prescribe stimulant medication when the NSW class authority conditions are met.
Practical details
Initial assessment pathways commonly cost $1,000 or more, with waits of six months or longer. Confirm what the fee and follow-up include. [1] [7]
Psychologist assessment
Assessment and care
Psychological assessment, with therapy or practical strategies where offered. Reports and session structures vary.
Medication
Psychologists cannot prescribe medication. Medical care requires a separate doctor.
Practical details
A full assessment often runs across four to six sessions and can cost thousands of dollars. Ask how the report can be used in later care. [7]
GP continuation care
Assessment and care
Your regular GP is rarely a current pathway for a new ADHD assessment. Selected trained NSW practices are expected to offer more from 2027.
Medication
Some trained and authorised GPs can continue stimulant medication once someone is diagnosed and stable. Conditions apply.
Practical details
Not every practice offers this. Ask what its prescriber is authorised and willing to do before relying on GP continuation care. [2] [8]

Cost and wait-time ranges are indicative category-level figures from a Kantoko review of publicly listed fees and availability, checked 12 July 2026. Fees, experience, availability and follow-up vary by provider, so confirm the details before booking.

The assessment process

What happens, in order

Complete your forms and local health checks before booking, so appointment time can focus on your history, what has been difficult day to day and what you want help with.

See what to ask your GP for
  1. 1

Start online, at your own pace

Create your profile and complete the assessment forms from home. Examples from school, work, relationships and day-to-day life are more useful than trying to find the right clinical words.

  2. 2

See your GP for the referral and checks

Ask a GP near you for the referral, an ECG, standard blood tests and recent blood pressure, pulse and weight measurements. These checks can be completed locally anywhere in New South Wales.

  3. 3

    Meet your ADHD Doctor

Once your information is uploaded, book your first video appointment. No trip to a Sydney clinic is required. Your assessment takes place over several appointments, giving your doctor time to understand the full picture.

  4. 4

Discuss the outcome and next step

Your ADHD Doctor will explain the outcome and their reasoning. If ADHD is diagnosed, you will agree on a care plan based on your health, preferences and circumstances.

NSW prescribing

Sydney follows the NSW pathway

ADHD prescribing is regulated at state level. The same NSW framework applies throughout Sydney.

What the rule means

NSW requires prior authorisation before a clinician prescribes or supplies Schedule 8 psychostimulant medication. The pathway depends on who is prescribing and whether medication is being started or continued.

Can my regular GP prescribe?

Some trained and authorised NSW GPs can continue stimulant medication once someone has been diagnosed and is stable. This does not mean every local GP can assess ADHD, start medication or manage changes. Ask the practice what its prescriber is authorised and willing to do.

Ask the practice who can assess you, who can prescribe and what happens if your medication or care plan needs to change.
