Kantoko may suit you if

  • You want adult ADHD assessment with the option of ongoing care from the same service.
  • Travelling along the Coast or into Brisbane for repeat appointments would make care harder to sustain.
  • You can attend video appointments and organise a GP referral, ECG, blood tests and basic observations nearby.

Another service may fit better if

  • You are under 18.
  • You need urgent, crisis, in-person or hospital-based mental health care.
  • Your mental or physical health needs more intensive or coordinated specialist care.

If you are not sure which level of care you need, start with your GP or local mental health service.

How Kantoko works on the Sunshine Coast

ADHD care without another trip down the highway

Your assessment and follow-up appointments happen by video. The referral and routine health checks can be organised near where you live.

Most of your care

Kantoko keeps your care together

Your ADHD Doctor and care team use the same platform throughout assessment and, when suitable, ongoing care.

  • Assessment and video appointments
  • Results, records and care plans
  • Requests and care-team communication
  • Ongoing appointments based on clinical need

Close to home

You arrange a few things locally

Your usual GP, pathology provider and local ECG service can complete these checks close to home, wherever you live in Queensland.

  • A referral from your GP
  • An ECG and standard blood tests
  • Blood pressure, pulse and weight

If medication is clinically appropriate, your ADHD Doctor handles the Queensland prescribing requirements and checks QScript when required. Medication is not guaranteed and is only one possible part of care.

The decision often comes down to diagnosis, medication, ongoing care or a report only.

Assessment and care
Adult ADHD assessment and ongoing care from an ADHD-focused team, in one platform with a health dashboard, records, requests, care-team communication and practical educational content.
Medication
Your ADHD Doctor can discuss medication and handle Queensland prescribing requirements when clinically appropriate.
Practical details
$200 for the first month, then $100 per month. The plan includes the assessment process, standard appointments based on clinical need, the Kantoko platform and ongoing care-team support. Care is designed to stay with you after assessment, not end once the diagnosis is complete. New appointments are currently estimated in 1–2 weeks. Medication, GP visits and routine tests are separate. [1]
Private psychiatrist
Assessment and care
Medical specialist assessment. Adult ADHD experience and follow-up arrangements vary by psychiatrist and clinic, so ask before booking.
Medication
Psychiatrists can prescribe psychostimulants for adults with ADHD within Queensland's maximum daily dose limits.
Practical details
Initial assessment pathways commonly cost $1,000 or more, with waits of six months or longer. Ask what the fee includes and whether ongoing appointments are available. [8] [2]
Psychologist assessment
Assessment and care
Psychological assessment, with therapy or practical strategies where offered.
Medication
Psychologists cannot prescribe medication. Medication assessment and prescribing require a separate medical practitioner.
Practical details
A full assessment often runs across four to six sessions and can cost thousands of dollars. Ask whether the report will meet the needs of any doctor involved in later medical care. [8] [3]
Specialist GP ADHD care
Assessment and care
Some GPs with specialist registration in general practice offer adult ADHD assessment and treatment. Relevant training, availability and follow-up arrangements vary by practice.
Medication
Since 1 December 2025, specialist GPs can initiate, modify and continue psychostimulants for adults with ADHD within Queensland's maximum daily dose limits.
Practical details
This authority does not mean every local GP or practice offers ADHD assessment. Ask whether the GP is accepting patients, what assessment includes and who provides follow-up. [1] [2]

Cost and wait-time ranges are indicative category-level figures from a Kantoko review of publicly listed clinic fees and availability, checked 12 July 2026. They are not claims about a particular clinic. Fees, availability, clinical experience and what is included vary by provider, so confirm the details before booking.

The assessment process

What happens, in order

Complete your forms and local health checks before booking, so appointment time can focus on your history, what has been difficult day to day and what you want help with.

See what to ask your GP for
  1. 1

Start online, at your own pace

Create your profile and complete the assessment forms from home. Examples from school, work, relationships and day-to-day life are more useful than trying to find the right clinical words.

  2. 2

See your GP for the referral and checks

Ask a GP near you for the referral, an ECG, standard blood tests and recent blood pressure, pulse and weight measurements. These checks can be completed locally anywhere in Queensland.

  3. 3

    Meet your ADHD Doctor

Once your information is uploaded, book your first video appointment. No trip to a Brisbane clinic is required. Your assessment takes place over several appointments, giving your doctor time to understand the full picture.

  4. 4

Discuss the outcome and next step

Your ADHD Doctor will explain the outcome and their reasoning. If ADHD is diagnosed, you will agree on a care plan based on your health, preferences and circumstances.

QLD prescribing

Sunshine Coast follows the QLD pathway

ADHD prescribing is regulated at state level. The same QLD framework applies throughout Sunshine Coast.

What the rule means

Queensland authorises specialist GPs and psychiatrists to prescribe psychostimulants for adults with ADHD within maximum daily dose limits without a patient-specific prescribing approval. Other circumstances can require an approval. Psychostimulants are monitored medicines, so QScript requirements also apply.

Can my regular GP prescribe?

Specialist GPs have a broader prescribing role in Queensland, but this does not mean every local GP offers adult ADHD assessment or ongoing ADHD care. Ask whether the practice assesses adults, has relevant experience and can provide follow-up.

Ask the practice who can assess you, who can prescribe and what happens if your medication or care plan needs to change.
